I'm nearly ready to fit my GAZ Golds but Gaz or Compbrake can't supply eccentric top mounts for the 405 unless they get lots of enquiries to justify tooling up for them so, what's available that will fit or can be modified?

Thanks

Can't you just use 205 mounts ?

We tried comparing the 205 eccentric mounts to stock 405 mounts - they would never fit as they are smaller and the bolt pattern is therefore also different.

would imagine 306 ones to be not far off, I saw a 405 lemans sprint car on the weekend that had GAZ and spherical jointed alloy top mount

Cheers. What about the 309? Are they any bigger? Otherwise, I might get something made up locally.

My coilovers have just arrived.

The bog question is whether i can use the stock bearings and top mounts with my Group N rubbers?! Or MUST I seek solid top mounts with rose joints?

Many thanks!

Jeff;

309 is the same as a 205, down to the part number, I would imagine anyone with access to decent machining setup can knock up some ally top mounts to suit, though depending on the cost, compbrake do sell alloy top mount blanks which you just need to trim down adn drill as required.

ropdionski;

from what I can gather, you can use dampers intended for spherical bearings with the standard top mount arrangement (as long as you also source the correct top spring pan) though you can't go the other way as the threaded section is not long enough to accept the securing nut.

Right, but still you would have to have a custom spring pan made in order to accomodate the bearing and top mount buffer, etc.?

If correct, then there's no point in not ordering the custom top mounts with rose bushes made, is there?

not really custom, just off the shelf.

there is a point to the custom top mounts, less flex and adjustability of caster/camber.

Right, of course there's a point in going for those custom mounts per se - but not due to inability to fit the coilovers with stock top mounts - that's what I implied in my comment.

As regards the 'off the shelf' deal - would you tend to agree that from the looks of it - these also include the spring pans in question?

Many thanks!

they appear to but you'd have to confirm with the seller or manufacturer.

they both look like 205 or 306 kits however, the lower set look like the cheap tat that is hot-tuning.

You are correct on both counts -

I've received a confirmation from the manufacturer - TA Technix from Berlin that indeed the stock top mount assembly will fit.
And yes - the sets in pics are for a 306 by Raceland and something else similar to that.

I was lucky to buy German made coilovers at the same price. Will have to try them out this week.

I just test-fitted the top bearings - they fit into top spring pans. Will add some pics later if interested.

Thanks Welshpug. These look like they may be suitable if the GAZ shafts have been machined for these bearings--CMB0233.
