It is about time to give my car its first wash and wax in its new home

According to peugeot the colour of my car is rouge vallelunga.

I bought a touch up paint yesterday and it came with clear laquer. So are these cars covered with clear laquer?
The red 205 we have has cracked paint on the roof and bonnet

I want to therefore try and protect the paint with some wax.

Is it safe to use these types of wax that hare petroleum based? I'm worried I am damaging the laquer coat (if I have one).

I have some Mer and Auto Glymn deep clean wax..
