Hi mates,

Am planning to upgrade compression ratio in my phase 1 mi16, by going to forged high comp piston. Though it would be very important to upgrade oil pump to keep up with the upgrade.. I have find sometimes on ebay an upgrade kit for oil pump.. not only the spring but the chain etc with .. Where can I buy this ? new if possible .

Thanks

theres been many posts saying that the ebay kit is well overpriced for standard pug parts, basically someone trying to make some easy money!

the part numbers are available and it is a good upgrade

cant help you with the numbers tho sorry!

There's a couple of ways you can go-

1. Buy a complete XU10 oil pump which also has the plastic cover over the chain & sprocket,

2. Add the XU10 spring to your existing pump (it's stronger), use the XU10 crankshaft sprocket (bigger) & fit the XU10 chain (longer) all sourced from your Pug dealer.

Since you'll have the engine apart, consider baffling the sump too.

There are other things you can do, like a deeper sump & extended oil pick up, as well as adding a windage tray.

Have a look at PeterT's website-

What's your budget for the project? Not considering a dry sump upgrade?

I didn't keep a track of the costs-

1. Oil pump spring, chain & sprocket-(all approx, all in AUD) $60.
2. Baffled early 8 valve sump (deeper) $150,
3. XU10 Windage tray $40,
4. Modification to fit windage tray to spacer plate $150,
5. Extended oil pick-up-made my own.

Since it's mainly for club sprints, I've also fitted a 13 row front mounted oil cooler & remote oil filter.

I did consider a dry sump arrangement, but for what it has cost so far, I'll see how this set-up goes on the track first. Quite a few of PeterT's customers run this set-up on their XU9 track cars & with good success.
