Yes! Look here: http://www.carsurvey.org/review_90860.html

edit: He's 17, maybe he thinks the 136? bhp unit in his 406 is the Mi16??

I have heard of a 406 Coupe getting around with a 405 T16 engine and running gear. Can you say sacrilege?!
KRISKARRERA
Yeah I don't see the point in doing that, there'll be no acceleration advantage, and it's not like a 3 litre 406 is all that slow in the first place.

well there's more to it - engineering challenge, uniqueness etc.

the thing is though, 406 coupe already weighs like a 405 T16, then add 4x4 drivetrain... rolleyes.gif.

that project has never been finished too afaik.

Sure....but why the hell pull apart a T16?!?! Bear in mind that we from the land down under have never ever seen one of these. Hell we consider 4Bies to be rare.

Cant abide to 406! Its why I defected and bought a Golf! LOL
cybernck
i suppose they just love their 406 coupe.

it had originally been a 2.0 16v, then they added a supercharger,
then replaced it with a 2.0 8v turbo and finally went for a 405 T16
engine and drivetrain conversion... but as i said, as far as i know,
it hasn't been finished (yet).

btw, 406 coupe used to be one of my dream cars... until i actually
drove one - got dissapointed (eventhough it was a V6 with leather
and stuff) and figured out how much better and more of a driver's
car my 405 T16 was (and still is smile.gif).

the only really good point about it were the 4-pot Brembo brakes,
but i've got those on my T16 biggrin.gif.

And according to Top Gear white is the current "in" colour biggrin.gif

My next project, if the 405 is beyond rescue, would probably be a 406 2.0(for rear disc) 96-97(cheap) with the xu9j4z from my 405.

Iīm not sure that the 406 would be faster than to build a new 405 racer, it would probably weight a bit more, but itīs still nice with a newer body and a more adjusteble rear.
Eric Josefsson
Hmm I read the info about the car now, should a 406, taxi, really be a fast car with the 2.0? I mean, it still weights about 1400kg. In a 1400kg car you need about 200hp to get a car thatīs as fast as a 405Mi16Light with a xu9j4z.

406,200hp= 1400kg/200hp=7kg/hp
With 155hp itīs 9kg/hp.. 9kg/hp well, I just say it wonīt be scary fast, better than 136hp, yes.

My hopes with a 406 racer would be to get a raceweight of 1200kg with my xu9j4z(160hp) Iīt gets 7,5kg/hp, thats not fast either, but itīs enough to have a bit of fun with if it corners well.
cybernck
what's wrong with your 405 then?
Eric Josefsson
Rust.. the swedish roads are salted during winter, the salt corrodes everything in itīs path. ī
Have to replace a few beams at the rear and rebuild parts of the front subframe.
The rear axel is also eaten by the rust, probably beyond rescue.

But iīm going to take it all apart to se how bad it really is, then I have to take a decision to either start a new project, or try to rescue the old 405.
Gonna brake my heart to take her to the junkyard, but at some point you have to let go. sad.gif

hello iam the person who wrote the review on the 406 with the mi 16 engine in and we did have a standered 2.0l in it but it f***ed up so we got the mi16 engine from the scrappies and its got wicked acceleration and a good top end it may not be as fast if it was in a 405 but its faster than what ya think and like i say in the review 405 mi 16 power with the looks of the 406
KRISKARRERA
Wahey! Welcome! I wondered if you'd show up here eventually.
