I have a 91 model and just picked up a 89 model yesterday which i wrote on General Car Chat, and i just noticed about an hour ago that the reverse is on the left front considering that on the 91 on the right rear.
Is the gearing different on these two as well or everything is the same just the reverse ?

No the ratios are the same, I think. Reverse on the left is a BE1 gearbox and reverse behind 5th is BE3.
