Hi everyone.
I have been sent here from peugeot405club.nl, they didnt want me because google translator wasnt doing a good job! My question is relating to the fuel tanks on the 405s.
Now, my model is a 1992 GRDturbo, but i believe that all the fuel tanks are the same across all the models. The book says that it will hold 70 litres but what i need to know is will it take more? Ideally i want to jam 75 litres into it.
The reasoning for this is range. My current highway economy at 110kmph or 70mph is sitting at 4.8L/100km. Thats already damn good and i reckon that by sticking to the speed limit all the way and using fuel sipping techniques, i would be able to increase that by 5-10%. i dont think i could get more than that out of her. If i could get 75 litres in the tank, and only use 4.5L/100km (6% increase in economy) then i could get 1666km (1041 miles) out of the tank. Its breaking the magical 1000 mile barrier that i am interested in, considering its a 17 year old car with 306000km on the clock.
The economy figure shouldnt be too tricky, it will be fitting the fuel in which I think will be the hard bit.
just for the record, an Mi16 is on the list of things to get when i have more money, they are such a great looking car and so practical as well.

I never sad we didn't want you

We've got an "International 405 Owners" part on our forum, but I thought it would be easier for you to communicate in english ;-)
Those online translators suck, especially when you select Danish instead of Dutch ;-)

I don't think it helped that i went from english to danish to dutch. something got lost in translation.

why not back the speed down a little? that will do wonders to your fuel economy!

You were better off posting it in English then using those translators

The don't know gramma.
(the same sentence translate from Dutch to English with a translator :')
"You had it better in English are possible placed than those translators to use" )

do u have bp ultimate diesel over there?? i dont know personally if its any good but i have heard some things.
My mi16 however uses strickly BP ultimate 98, though every other car ive owned also has, its an EXCELLENT fuel.
u could also try a high quality diesel fuel system cleaner?

no, we dont have any ultimate diesel fuel =( there is bp ultimate 98 petrol but its quite expensive. The best fuel here is actually gull brand but thats north island only and I am in the south island.
The good economy figure i got with challenge diesel which i think is supplied by Caltex. Mobil diesel has an anti-frothing thing in it which makes brimming the tank much easier. I havnt worked out which fuel is the most economical, that would be tricky to do in a car as the trips constantly vary in conditions.
Are there any recommended diesel fuel treatments which are designed to improve the quality of the fuel? Injector cleaners don't seem to do anything what-so-ever so I wont waste $15 on a bottle of that stuff when i could just put $15 more diesel in the car and get $15 more milage out of it!
