hi to any one that can help i have a 405 mi16 4x4 phase 1 on a h plate which is standard bar a few bits.i've had a powerflow straght through exuast put on and a pipercross air filter popped on to it which make it sound great but what i want to do is knock off the front wheel drive and only keep it in rear ?how hard would it be ?also would love to turbo it but cant find any where that can help so at a bit of a loose end so to say my plan is to keep it looking the way a mi should look standard as i think they look great and you can beat an old school car theres just something about them. my mi is in grafitte grey which is one of the best colours to own one in the plan is to have the ultimate street sleeper just to see peoples faces when they see a 405 mi going side,no one said only fords or jap cars can only have fun so if any one can help please help

it's not really possible to do it, as the viscous coupling unit needs resistance from the front and and rear wheels to function correctly.

you'd have to do some serious mods to the transfer box.

and i'm not sure how much power/torque would the rear Torsen diff would be able to take anyway.

Thanks for your quick response about the conversion on my mi 4x4 sounds a bit of a mission but I think it would be worth it . I was speaking to a bloke at spoox a pug specialist up north and he said all that had to be done was to weild up the front diff to convert it ? Sounds good in theory but his charging £400 don't mind paying it if it works.

Check out this link. If you want to Turbo an Mi16x4 you'll need to uprate the transfer box to take the additional load, especially the splined transfer shaft - regardless of whether you have it rear or 4 wheel drive. He sells all the parts you need to uprate the transfer box, including complete new spline shafts.

I've done a lot of research and been in contact with the chap for my project (still ongoing....) and although the T16 transfer shaft he sells through the website will not fit the BE3 box on the Mi16x4, he can get them made. Individually they are quite expensive, but if he can get two made the cost drops quite a bit. If you are genuinely interested drop me a PM because I have been toying with the idea of getting one.

Also the Torsen rear diff is good for well over 300bhp apparently

thanks for tips mate will check them out as it looks like i'm going to get it turbo'd very soon now just found a site calleddp-engineering.nl which do a complete turbo kit for the mi16 4x4 doesn't work out to price for what you get also found out there is a way of making the 4x4 drift if you have enough power still keeping it in 4wd.peugeot still do the diff lock servo for the rear diff only £50. basiclly there is a blonk of onthe rear diff u unscrew this and screw in the servo and wire it up to a switch to lock the back wheels how cool is that and only £50 plus a bit of elec now how this could save me a ££££££££'s and all u have to do is screw something into the rear diff

Yeah the rear diff is apparently identical to the one you find in the good old 505 Turbo with 180bhp standard.

It's said to handle quite a bit.

I think the Nissan Pulsar GTiR uses a viscous coupling, a friend found that out when he took the front driveshafts off in an attempt to convert it to RWD and it wouldn't move very far

He swapped it for a Skyline R33 GTS...

505s never had torsen, and not all of the 505s are equipped with PC7 rear diff.

If one wants lockable rear diff, the whole differential needs to be taken from GRx4/SRx4 model. A few pictures from Mi16x4 rear differential. Rear wheel drive only would be easiest to do with GRx4/SRx4 lockable transferbox. Just remove front driveshafts and keep the lock on all times. But it might be too weak to use on 2wd.
