Can a phI 4bie run on an ethanol blended petrol? I can't get straight 98/97 locally and no way I can drive to the nearest place that sells it simply for petrol.

Unfortunately I am having to use 95 currently. I can hear pinging when going up hills at lower (but not labouring) rpm's or when accelerating (slowly) in a high gear (not with foot to floor). Sounds like a kind of rattle that goes away when easing of gas or changing to lower gear.

Been told that I can get a 97 not too far away but it's Ethanol blended so would very much like to know if I can use it.

Would guess you can use it with no problems.

I though all petrol these days was at least E5 so 5% etanol.

Last year I was running my 405 Mi16 ML1.3? cat equipped version on E85.
I just changed the injectors for 330cc ones, filled her up and started. It was not so easy to start when it was low ambient temp.. so 5 degrees or colder was more or less a no go.. but other than that, when it first had started it worked just fine.

Did not have problems with rubber hoses going or anything...

That's promising, mine is the non-cat model.

Not all fuel here is blended. I checked once on their generic compatiblity chart and it said that 405's were not compatible but I figured someone here could probably be more specific.

So are you still using blended fuel? No issues with seals anywhere or the fuel pump etc?

What do you have to do to convert a j4 to run on straight alcohol fuels (i.e no petrol)? Anyone know?

Injector change was just so I could run on E85, so 85% etanol and 15% petrol blend.
With a 5% etanol and 95% petrol you will be fine running standard injectors.

But you're really better off with a third party engine management if you are converting to E85 and such, as I had problems getting the motronic to start properly, not able to tweak the startup enritchment properly.

Brilliant. I shall go forth and find higher octane. Maybe I should see if I can find ethanol at a lower cost than petrol. Make my own 50-50 blend or something.
