: Shes going ... Sorry guys but i had a hard choice to make ..Either scrap the mi or the v70 t5 , and it had to be the 405 im afraid ( the mrs made me do it )...bloody scrappage scheme ..Ive got until wednesday to enjoy her before she goes into the great scrapyard in the sky ....The logic being that if we wereo sell any car we would get a better price for the t5 than the mi ...
KRISKARRERA
I can see the logic but scrapping a black Mi16?! Damn I wish I had 2 grand just lying around to give you.
poleposition
Iknow , its shite isnt it ..but with fuel going through the roof again we need a car that we can justify running , and the saving on fuel alone justifies the purchase price , low emmissions , so as of April 2010 it is 0 tax per yr and 50 mpg around town ...Probably wont be long before the T5 goes as i will need a Diesel for myself for work mad.gif

I wouldn't bother with the scrappage scheme, find a nice 6 month old example of what you're after and haggle the price down, you'll soon save 2k off the asking price easily.

Definately, will still be in warranty, no MOTs for a couple of years and a fair bit cheaper than brand new

Tis not new though at six months old though is it ...to be honest she has drove what she considers a shed for a fair while now , and i still have two other old cars to play with ...BTW , I got 3500 off the list price , with the scrappage scheme , so it isnt a waste it adds to the discount , i have had plenty of second hand cars in the past , so its new all the wayyyyyy..Its too late now anyway shes meeting her fate on Wednesday..

You prat! No 'real' offence meant but if you looked into it a bit more you'd find that the scarppage scheme is just crap, asthey'd give you similar discounts/benefits with a new car anyway!

The scrappage scheme really is a load of b0llocks, such a shame as it's just killing off so many cars now! The Mi is a rare and iconic car, that will only go up in value in years to come, if in good condition now of course, and you're just culling another for the sake of what you think is saving you a few quid, despite what you think, it really isn't.

Even so anyway, surely the T5's worth about the same now in reality as the Mi in decent nick anyway, values have seriously plummeted! (I'm a Volvo man too!)

LOL, so many internet experts ...Everyone always think they know best ...Firstly , the mi16 isnt going to be worth feck all in the future , i thought we cleared up many moons ago ..obviously many thousands of people have been conned then ?? we all should of asked you first tongue.gif ....Whether its a con or not im happy with the deal ive got and that i wouldnt have got such a deal without the mi , being part ex or scrappage , whatever .... the mi in the condition it was in was worth 300 tops ...read previous posts on the engine probs , so ive no regrets ( despite what the internet experts say ) rolleyes.gif ...T5 in tip top condition vs a 405 with poorly engine ...so scrapping a car with a market value of £300 is no serious loss ...So at worse ive lost 300,(you make it sound like ive srapped a mk1 rs escort .lol) ...and it makes your car rarer...And the kids arent embarrased being picked up in the T5 as they were in the mi from school ...so time to grow up ( not too much though ) and get a boring , decent eco car for day to day driving ...24 hrs of mi-ship and counting
BazGTMi
Ah right but you never said all that previously did you. And yes i am an 'expert', considering that is/was my trade being ex-Peugeot dealership and a few Used dealerships & trade centre employee.

I didn't say it was a con, i said it was a shame, and you could get similar money off the new car anyway, without losing your 405. IMO it's a dumb scheme but if you're happy, go for it of course.

And it doesn't make my car rarer, i don't have a 405.

Nooooooo, my old Mi gone to the scrapyard in the sky, just as I was looking for another!!!! Grrrrrr.

Which dealer did she go to, might see if they'll just swap it for something else to scrap!!!!!

Iknow mate , sorry sad.gif ...Its gone for a Corsa ecoflex im afraid ...Not actually sure if there would be any chance of saving it anyway , i think they have to scrap it ...Ive just recently bought a new ACAV system to get it up to scratch as a long term keeper , but the need for the mrs to get a new car was greater , so it was the logical choice to get shut of the mi rather than my T5 and my 2010 hillclimber , the gtti ...She will probably be coke tins now ....
pony
you scrapped a mi16 for a corsa? sorry is this a joke?
poleposition
Lol , i was waiting for that ...Lets get one thing straight , the Brand new 10 reg corsa is miles better drive than the 17 yr old defective engined phase 2 mi16 , is better to the gallon etc etc ...The mi16 was a great car but its no match for a new car , any new car ...
AlexN
Maybe an Mi16 is no match for comfort, reliability, economy, tax, insurance etc, but there is one thing the vast majority of new cars can't match it on, character. Maybe this isn't enough to save one these days.

It's a shame but I do understand your reasoning, especially if you have a family - early 90's cars aren't renowned for their impact protection these days!

I couldnt agree more , ive had 3 mi16s and love em , but the mrs doesnt share my enthusiasm ( although she put up with it for a few yrs , the mi that is )...ive still got 2 retro cars to play with ... My Gtti , which is 1 litre , and to be honest ( have compared the figures ) would give a p1 mi16 a scare up to about 100 mph , and has bags of character...The T5 has bags of character and would wup the mi16 at any speed in a straight line ( not in the corners though )...unfortunatly the Mrs doesnt care about character , she just wants a modern, driveable , new car sad.gif .....and the mi was the casualty..
WELSHPUG
reliability is debatable, as is comfort, its a Fiat Punto with a Griffin badge and a different set of lights laugh.gif

and yes I have been in one of these godawful creations!
poleposition
Claws away tiger !! The mrs loves it , but i will pass on your comments to her rolleyes.gif

Dear god, for a poxy corsa too!

More fool you, it'll only be worth that £2k in just a couple of years, if it still works.
