1978 something Mercedes prop shaft bearing mount will work, it will need some spacing up but that's not really a problem.

Apart from that I have heard that the Renault Kangoo is a direct replacement, but might not be as easy to get.

More details from 405 T16 forum:

Hi!!
I used one from Mercedes 200 /1978
and the bearing it self, got it from a bearing shop
they are all carry STD part number..

This actually has the same part number (1154104481) as mentioned in another post on the T16 forum.

No problem.

You can use some nuts in oversize dimension I guess to space the mounting down a bit so it will sit at the correct elevation.
Should be bolt on apart from that.

Don't suppose you know why the rear suspension is so hard when its in its raised position? Surely it would make more sense to be softer when going over rough ground?!

Not 100% sure, but might be due to you are running out of stroke on the rear cylinders?

It should theoretically have the same stiffness if you push it down, but when it raises after beeing pushed down I think they run out of stroke and hence it's very bouncy/stiff on the rebound.

Afaik it should'nt really be driven in the raised position unless it's a special occation.

I don't have much experience with this though, as I bought my T16 in parts, and is still probably 1-2 years from beeing finished and ready to test-drive it smile.gif

I see, thanks again!

Is it like the 4bie rear susp and BX hydraulic based? In the fully up position you are maxing out the hydro pressure = Strut's at maximum extension and so much pressure they can move at all. Basically you remove all suspension travel.

Same thing on my BX when you go to maximum hight. It's actually called "Service Mode" as you are not supposed to drive the car like this. They also have a rough ground mode which raises the car but not all the way up.

Is there any modification that would allow you to drive with it high up but keep it soft?
cammmy
The hight is driven by an electronic sensor on the rear ARB. You can rotate the clamp around the ARB to change the hight, but that means it will always self-level to there until you change it back.

If you use the service button to raise the car but turn it off before it gets all the way to the top. Does it just self level back to it's normal ride hight?
adriches
If you rotate the sensor so it rides high, its hard and bouncy. Same a when the button is pressed. I was wondering if there was any way of having it high without the harshness? Like a bigger sphere or something?!

It should only get bouncy when there is zero suspension travel, i.e it's been raised all the way to the top.

Raise it to the top. Bounce rear end up and down, then lower it a bit and try again.
