yes just been out and tried one on, as i couldn't wait. As you say they don't fit behind the standard rims (gutted).
I think i will try and get some brembo's if i have got to change the wheels. Really wanted to keep the standard look though.
I wonder if the wheels can be slimmed down or the calipers?

TBH, i think too much material would have to be removed from the wheel/caliper. I'm in the same boat, I really like the standard wheel but have now faced up to the fact I'm going to have to get something different.
If you really want to keep the standard look and the 283mm's then have you thought about trying to track down a set of T16 rims?

After having another look, i think a set of narrow spacers may do the job for part of it, and then just remove a small amount of material from the outer edge of the caliper, i will start to play at the weekend and see what i can come up with.

Hooray i've done it, managed to fit the 406 calipers behind the standard wheels, and it is dead easy, basically you need a 3mm wheel spacer and you need to shave about 5mm off of the caliper in 2 places, have put some pics for you to see.
i am going to make some better wheel spacers that locate onto the hub center and bolt through the disc fixing screw hole as the ones shown below are a nightmare and are going back tomorrow, they served there purpose though....
I have also managed to get the hole in the arch welded and sealed, some pics added.

Nice one, don't suppose you could make 2 sets of spacers while your at it?

If this is possible then can you PM me please and we can have a chat about it

just think if they had a more normal offset like the lemans and 205/309/306 wheels you wouldnt need any spacers!

Thats great !! Well done.
You should get those calipers painted up so you cannot see the cut marks.
That car will have some stopping power now

right then, have not been doing much on the old girl over the last few weeks as been very busy with one thing and another. however got a bit in the other day and today.
The last panel have gone away to be repaired and painted (boot lid and rear bumper), my brother (panel beater/sprayer) is coming over at the weekend to prep and primer the rest of the shell, the colour and lacquer is on the way, so i hope to have her back painted in a week or so, then it is just a matter of rebuilding her.
front and rear screen have been removed before painting, and the new front screen is on the way.
I am making steady progress with the engine rebuild and should have some pics soon.
in the mean time i have made a start cleaning the filthy interior plastic trims, removed the headlining today ready for cleaning and removed the last seat so that the cover can go into the washing machine.

Such a shame after all the effort that's gone into this car, someone needs to take it on and complete!

Feel like giving this a go today...

it is dead easy, you have to cut all of the metal clips off of the cover that hold it to the frame. you have to remove the seat from the car first and the runners off oe the seat frame....

Front mountings of the rear subframe - how you managed to replace them? I need new ones for my another rear axle, which will be overhauled. And did you overhaul rear differential, just thinking is there anything special with it.

use citroen bx bushes from rear subframe and press them into the old 405 alloy mountings, rear diff is a torsen and only the bearings can be replaced.

So - if we fitted 1.9 GTi alloys then these brakes would fit - no?

not 100% on that due to the offset of the calipers (less than what the 205 runs)
but many a 205 runs gti6 brakes which is the came caliper, just a different carrier for the pads and a larger offset on the disc+hub, so it would be close.
