On the way home from Llandow last week Gerty cut out for no apparent reason.She lost all power inc dash lights etc,managed to fire her up again by jump starting her off the track beast,a few miles down the road as soon as i stopped in a layby she cut out again,swapped the battery from the track beast and shes been fine since though seems to be missing when pulling off from standstill.It was a brand new battery and there was no reason she should of just cut out like that.

Originally thought it could be altenator,but seems fine with another battery,Perhaps a bad earth somewhere or battery connection?

Any ideas guys?

It could be a lazy alternator combined with a battery thats on the way out.

I had a similar problem on the BX where it would jump start and run, then cut out eventually. None of the ignition lights on the dash came on to signal the alternator like normal, but the battery was draining while the car was running so it had to be really. Changed alternator and fine ever since.

Because you changed the battery, you might have had a good one on the track car which is still holding out. Check the output on the alternator.

But always worth checking the earths, especially the one from the engine to the chassis.

Both the batterys were bought at the same time and only a few weeks old,So crossed that out.I did originally think altenator but ive driven it since and its been fine,really worried about driving it about until i find out what the problem is as i dont wanna be stranded.

Had a similar problem with mine last year. Turned out to be the main earth strap on it's way out. Eventually broke in the middle of nowhere leaving no choice but to improvise with some cable ties and a spanner.

Grrrr shes done it again,shes been fine the last two weeks aswell.Only had a 3 mile journey and 1 mile from home she cut out on me,The stereo was playing up beforehand crackling and kept going off,then my indicators had a paddy before finally cutting out.Turned the key and had all dash lights,she didnt attempt to turn over,just my immobilisor making a pathetic sound,So ive now left her stranded at the side of the road and had a very wet walk home
