Is it possible to transplant a T16 engine straight into a Mi16x4, or are there alot of differnces?

Im pretty sure some of the drivetrain is different on a t16 to the 4bie.But other than that i think its pretty straight forward

Mi16x4 transferbox, prop shaft and rear diff are esentially the same as T16,
but they have a different ratio and the three must be used together.

gearbox is completely different but funnily enough they're both compatible
with either of the transferboxes, so you could leave yours!

however, you'll then need to swap the flywheel for the Mi16x4 one and get
a very stong 215mm clutch made, or keep the flywheel, modify the bellhousing
to accept the 235mm clutch and have a custom plate done.

btw, Mi16x4 gearbox/clutch is push type while T16 is pull type (like 306 GTI-6).

hope this helps smile.gif.

vicki/cybernck,

Thanks for the info. It is just an idea at the moment, but it would be fantastic to have a right hand drive T16. Is it going to be easier to get a T16 and convert it to right hand drive? i can't afford it at the moment, but you can dream,

I thought you could use the 306 HDi 235mm clutch on the T16 flytheel and still use it in a BE3 box? At least that's what I've heard. Guess the 306 HDi has a BE box to start with?

Edit: Checked parts CD. Looks like it's 230mm, but anyway, should be nice to see if it really fits both the T16 flywheel and inside the BE3 bellhousing. smile.gif

Why not just build a turbo iron block and retain the current drive train? That's what I've been considering. The gearing would be delicious with that much torque! You'd change that ugly 1st gear though.

Another thing to bear in mind is that a 4bie is lighter than a t16, so it would be slightly quicker off the mark.
cybernck
it has considerably less power though wink.gif.

i mean with a t16 engine in it wink.gif
