I have to confess I'm a bit bloody useless at this, I keep saying I will and then don't laugh.gif
vicki
theres always this year at Combe Kriss tongue.gif

Last year on track there was me,dean, ade, mike and kitsune doing the mi16's proudly!
KRISKARRERA
I've gotta throw caution to the wind and do it. It's probably no harder on the car than the average trip I do down to devon anyway lol
vicki
Just have one 20 minute session and see how you get on.Once the track bug has bitten you wont be able to resist more track action biggrin.gif
poleposition
how does your 4bie compare to the 2wd on track???
vicki
Its great round the bends and through the chicanes though initial pull through the gears is slower than a 2wd.I would like a bit of extra power to help me out the bends but i can make do as you cant beat the handling.I just gotta get used to a 2wd again now as having the 4bie for so long has made me a tad cocky laugh.gif
Robley
Never been on the track, done the prescot hill climb but thats nothing compared with the real thing. may be this year some time
franco
nice to see 405's getting some track time, so sick of seeing 205's LOL!

I've had mine out once on a wet and rainy track day... It's a lot of fun. Need to get the car back to good running condition before that happens again.

I've run my Mi16x4 in two supersprints recently, as my 205 track car is having a rebuild. It was completely stock (except ECU), other than baffled sump, C5 wheels and Yoko A32R's. The grip is absolutely staggering and you can point it ANYWHERE you want. At the limit, you can make the back step out but it's so easy to catch it again. I've even had the rear diff lock up exiting a corner! You really need to keep it on the ball and the extra few hundred RPM limit helps to some degree. It would be a lot nicer with the closer ratios of the 205 GTi box. I might find one and wreck it just for the gearbox!

The 205 (8V and 16V) track car brigade were doing around 1:27, my best was 1:33.

Here's a pic. of a local Super Tourer (circe late '90's).

Great idea! laugh.gif
RobMGti
Haha thought that would amuse Kris !

Bulk head is rather shiny and smooth? Heat Sheilding? Surley not
piran21
What do you front wheel drive people do about the rear suspension?
KRISKARRERA
Not alot apart from lowering it and fitting better shocks.

Lowering a 405 is bad idea. Oh it looks better for sure but I don't reckon it helps the handling enough to justify putting up with all the bumpy uk roads and I find my exhaust hits speed bumps.
piran21
Do you mean the rear? Or even the front?

Me confused unsure.gif . We talking exhaust pipes?
RobMGti
Im fairly sure he is referring to lowering in general. There is hardly point lowering one end and then not doing the other, that will just upset the natural balance of the car.
KRISKARRERA
Yeah it's gotta be done evenly, which can be a bitch to get right. Course not such a problem on the 4x4 biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif amen
piran21
Yes, I was referring to lowering. Adjusting the torsion bars is a b*tch isn't it?
KRISKARRERA
Those that have done it a few times would say no to that question but I think the problem is that they all need overhauling.

This is my 405 from two diffrent events in spring last year.
First is a "porche" event private track day.

http://hem.passagen.se/ljudtomten/050429/
(my car is only seen on first picture.)
The other photos is from the fast group, i chose to drive in the "slow" with the TVR´s and the M5 and some older 911.
The Green TVR in the bottom of page and I had some really nice fights om the track, but he was too fast in the straights for me too keep up for longer periods..

Im not gonna spend either money or time on something that doesn't make the car go faster or that is necessary by other practical reasons..

Thats just pointless blink.gif

I Know you was joking, but for information about why the bumbers look like they do, it was a pretty good opportunity to answer than comment even though it wasn't a question wink.gif
vicki
Some nice 3 wheeled action shots there biggrin.gif

Eric...does the car still have original glass? The next thing on the list for our track beast is to poly carb the windows, fairly pricey but the less weight the better, also plan on welding sunroof and back doors to make a 3 door biggrin.gif
RobMGti
Thats a tidy spec smile.gif How do you find the bridgestones?
Eric Josefsson
Vicki, yes its still original glass, with working electrical wink.gif
Changing to PC is in mind, I talked to a dealer about prices during the winter but I newer felt the price to be as good as i want it.

The sunroof is very good to throw away, alot of weight in the total wrong area.

If i get the time I will make a new bonnet in glassfiber during summer. (it wont look good, but that really dont matter to me smile.gif (unpainted of course, for that real anti-bling look)

In sweden the agent for Bridgestone is "Dahlbäck Racing"
Next time i change it will be Kumho V70A Medium (won them in a PSC lottery in 2004)
If I would buy new R-tyres i would just get those who were the cheapest, usually Toyo in sweden)

Here's a pic of the Mi at Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia.

It's getting an engine upgrade atm [brought on by a(nother) bottom end failure]. mad.gif

I hope to be back trackside again in a few months.Click to view attachment
franco
very nice jeff, looks immaculate

are they 406 wheels on it?
JeffR
Thanks franco,

Yes, they're 406 V6 rims 15 X 6 1/2" as fitted to Aust spec 406's (SV).

Could do with something lighter 'tho.

Here's another day at Sandown.

Lovely Jeff.
What's that hanging out the bonnet though?
franco
would say that's a bonnet latch strap, requirement under australian CAMS regulations (its our official motorsport governing body)

Took Gerty out at Llandow on Saturday, only managed about 12 laps before the gear linkage fell off,on the way home the heater matrix packed up as did the altenator...it was only a 100 mile drive home but boy did it take forever esp as it was like a sauna in the car. sad.gif
