heres a piccy of mine and vickis track car at llandow it was its first outing and i was impressed with how it went ,it was only a short track but i was lapping as quick as most the standard pugs, got to get on with the build again now ready for next outing in april this time with a lot less weight and baffled sump i hope see how it fairs on a higher speed track

Ahh so you're Dean are you? Is that Boobies behind?

I finally found this post on AF about why Peter Brock's Mi16 had so much body roll in the 12Hr @ Bathurst. Enjoy.

Nah thats Jim01uk Kriss. in his s16,he did really well seeing as it was his first time on track.
KRISKARRERA
Ah righteo Vicki. I'm trying to look for some cheap wheels to put on my car for when I go on track.
vicki
Weve got about 8 spares in our garage laugh.gif
KRISKARRERA
Cool but spares as in Alloys or steelies? And are you willing to part with some of them? biggrin.gif
vicki
As in the proper 15" mi16 alloys.....not willing to part with them as will need them for the track beast......was just telling you to make you jealous tongue.gif

Citroen C5 black wheels. They're 15x6 18ET and weigh just 4.8Kg.
KRISKARRERA
Yeah Vicki ur naughty.

That's a cool idea Pete. Are those Citroen C5 black wheels fitted to any other models that you know of? 406? 407?
KRISKARRERA
I searched the parts cd, these 15 inch ET18 steelies are listed for 306, 405 and 406.

That's not them. They're not steel, they're made of aluminium.
petert
Here they are. Note there a two styles, tapered nuts and flat nuts. The flat nut type were recalled due to cracking, so there's heaps of those available!
KRISKARRERA
Strike me roan, I see what you mean, I can see the metal is thicker because of it being alloy.
Not convinced that they'd be easy to find though they must be cheaper at main dealer than "normal" alloys like Mi16s for example.
petert
Me hard at work in the Mi16x4, complete with C5 wheels and Yokos.
KRISKARRERA
Haha sexy! I want some. Are you willing to say how much u paid for them?
KRISKARRERA
Are all race tracks clockwise?
petert
I paid AUS$400 inc. wheel bolts, from the local Citroen dealer. That track is anti-clockwise!
KRISKARRERA
400.00 AUD = 162.637 GBP. Not bad.

I was asking about the track because it occured to me that on a clockwise track all those right hand bends will mean bad fuel starvation in a 405.

Ive been on 3 clockwise circuits,at combe ive never suffered any oil surge but did at Llandow and really bad at Bruntingthorpe. Was contemplating getting a baffled sump but wont bother now for Gerty cus shes retired from track, its on the list of things to be done to the track slag though.

I've even had the rear diff lock up exiting a corner! You really need to keep it on the ball and the extra few hundred RPM limit helps to some degree. It would be a lot nicer with the closer ratios of the 205 GTi box. I might find one and wreck it just for the gearbox!

laugh.gif Gotta be done! Payback!

I autocrossed my Mix4 last year before i really knew what i had! Did ok and won the class, beating my old man. wink.gif I broke the transfer box and the rear suspension now refuses to self-level though! I bought a replacement transfer box to go in, just busy selling off crap, like 205s!! Now it just sits in the workshop awaiting some loving!

I've done it. I now have a 1.6L GTi gearbox and a spare Mi16x4 box. I'm going to put the two together like this:

1st 3.25
2nd 1.85
3rd 1.36
4th 1.069
5th 0.800
BazGTMi
Bet it shifts even more now! Have you timed it at all?
petert
No, I haven't got the new gearbox together yet. I'm going to strip the car, get it painted and re-upholstered. I'll fit it then.

Looking good, have you thought about getting some different seats as the standard ones are pretty heavy?
lemans120
oh yes i only really started the build in march i have so much i want to do but cant plough all my money into it as i have a poorly lemans i need to get sorted for the winter so suspension is next on list and then it will be staying as is apart from custom alloy dash panel with gauges ,fia cut of switch and maybe starter button.then for next season will look at roll cage, carbs and then maybe seats. would love to have the dosh to do it all at once because it will be an awesome car when complete its pretty usefull now
petert
I fitted some Kumo 205/50/15 semi slicks on to my Simmons 15 x 6.5" rims and drove the Mi16x4 to a track day today. It was supposed to be a training day, but I just got on the gas and gave it a hiding. Although it lacked acceleration, it was absolutely incrediable through the corners. Neutral to the limit, I just kept feeding the power in. It was so predicable, you could point it anywhere. I was able to match any car through the corners - Porsches, Elises etc. There's not many cars that are so well balanced.
lemans120
having driven vickis a fair few times with the suspension mods done i have to agree they are awesome you can do what you want with it its just a shame it breaks to easy because stripped out and about 200 hp it would make a rapid track car i would love to try a t16 as it has the power to go with the chassis
