Front are 6.5" and the rear are something like 8" which you can't really replace properly without making a replacement shelf

Yeah this is what I have done. It takes a bit of effort filing and cutting bits to make it fit, but looks just the job when you've done it

Aye, my old 406 had a similar arangement, but i dismembered the old kack speakers and uses the plastic baskets as a kind o adaptor plate to mount the new ones - worked a treat, but looked totally original. Worth the effort and knuckle blood!

Standard speakers are very good on Peugeots in my opinion though

I had some kenwood ones in my old 4x4 some years back, they were some kind of custom fit jobs which had loads of fixing holes for different cars, they fitted in place of the OE ones but for the life of me I cant find any infomation about this and the bloke at Halfords... well I may of just as well of been speaking french. I said "I'll pop back later"

Do you have a Sextons near you? Or is it just a Bristol company? They seem to know their stuff when it comes to speaker fitments.

sorry

dont understand what your problem is, of cause you can buy direct replacement speakers for the rear. i had kenwood in before fittin 6x9s, fitted baskets spot on and they also were in the front doors before replacing with components.

I'm talking about replacing them properly; ie for sound quality. Should have explained myself a bit better, but I used to have a 405 that I used for sound offs. I had to make a complete new rear shelf for it.
AFAIK there was no manufacturer that made direct rear replacement speakers for a 405

Grrrr just discovered the left hand tweeter speaker is not working, bit of a shame really as Miles replaced them with quality Pioneer 80w jobbies.
Also the left door speaker is vibrating nicely on the slightest bit of bass so that'll need sorting too.
